Like many others, I discovered this great song from a bygone era a few years ago, though it came out slightly before I was born. So happy to see that it has a music video now, and with over 12 million views! Hopefully Ms. Takeuchi will see some revenue from the views.

The only thing keeping this from being perfect for me is a lack of a cameo by Mariya herself. She's still singing and released an album shortly before the pandemic started! She deserves to participate in the MV of the song she created

Idk if they are doing this on purpose or not, but this video screams Wong Kar Wai…minus the slow shutter shots, everything else is spot on.

It would be degrading to Mrs. Takeuchi if people from the west still believe she is a ripoff from her husband. I still read here and there that she had nothing to do with her success as "her husband wrote the song" (well, she wrote the song entirely herself) While it is arguable that her husband is still more talented in instruments, productions, arrangements, etc., Takeuchi has had superb composing and lyrics achievements alone – besides just for herself which she wrote everything – but for the pieces she provided to other Japanese singers already. The same has not been the case for Yamashita (of course, though, there were a few excellent ones he wrote for J-pop bands starting in the 90's).
Taceuchi is also claimed to be the "textbook of composing" for her sensible composition with delicate music theory. The fact that she still sells no. 1 records every time she release a material is very rare in a consumerist market as in Japan where even Yamashita couldn't endure popularity in the 90's (which in his own words he is fine with), let alone almost every other artists at her age, barring Yumi Mastusoya, the ultimate icon of Japan, of course.
